The total population of the Delhi is estimated at 3.3 crores, of which 1.7 crores
are male and 1.6 crores are female. Delhi Education is centered on the examinations
conducted under the State Boards, Universities and Colleges, the Universities and
Colleges comprise the education in Delhi
Literacy rate in Delhi has seen upward trend and is 66.41 percent as per 2011
population census. Of that, male literacy stands at 76.84 percent while female literacy
is at 52.04 percent. In 2001, literacy rate in Delhi stood at 53.56 percent
of which male and female were 63.83 percent and 38.87 percent literate respectively.

It is envisaged to achieve an enrolment ratio of 75% from the existing 52% at secondary
stage within 5 years of implementation of the scheme by providing a secondary school
within a reasonable distance of any habitation. The objective is proposed to be
achieved through Public Private Partnership of Delhi Council of Open Schooling.
Important physical facilities and important quality interventions would be provided
byDelhi Council of Open Schooling under the scheme.
Delhi Council of Open Schooling will provide infrastructure and facilities with stipulations
on pupil-teacher ratio, ICT usage through free laptops up to 3000 annually, holistic
educational environment, good library with books and magazines for student’s appropriate
curriculum and emphasis on output and outcome.
Education provided by Delhi Council of Open Schooling would be holistic and integral
touching upon physical, emotional and aesthetic development in addition to academics.
